Syllabus
The module conceptualises current approaches in the global health agenda and its importance to the medical profession. Lectures cover issues such as the global burden of diseases, the determinants of health and health inequalities in comparative global contexts. Students will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge of global health systems organisation and governance and reflect on the implication of this on population health. Lectures are complemented by seminars and practical workshops to explore issues of global health in more detail and increase awareness of specific health issues and challenges. The interactive seminars provide students with an opportunity to contextualise the National Health System within the United Kingdom with a global health system nexus.

Assessment Breakdown
This module is designed to provide a critical overview of major global health debates and challenges and to enhance your knowledge of the determinants of health and health inequalities. The link to current global burden of diseases and the progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals will also be explored. Students will have the opportunity develop their knowledge of global health systems organization and governance and reflect on the implication of this on population health. By exploring issues of global health in a deeper context, students will develop an increased awareness of specific health issues and challenges and will be provided with an opportunity to contextualise the National Health System in the United Kingdom to the global perspective.
Students will develop skills and appropriate attitudes required for active lifelong learning. From an epidemiological perspective to health-related research and enquiry-based learning, you will consolidate research, analysis, and statistical skills to make objective conclusions from conflicting evidence; study the relationship between cause and effect; and direct your own research to acquire new knowledge, understanding and impact of health globally
